Experience Morocco’s cultural richness by taking a magical day trip to Essaouira, a coastal city outside of Marrakech. The lovely old coastal town of Essaouira is located two and a half hours from Marrakesh. It is a peaceful paradise where all of your senses are stimulated at once.
Start your journey to the coastal city of Essaouira as one of the finest spots for a one day excursion, known until the 1960s as Mogador, is a port city in the western Moroccan region of Marakesh-Safi, on the Atlantic coast.
A private, air-conditioned mini-van will pick you up at 8:00am from your hotel in Marrakech and take you to Essaouira. As you approach Essaouira, you will see signs announcing women-run Argan cooperatives. At the source, you will witness live demonstrations of Berber women harvesting Argan fruit. When you arrive in Essaouira, you will be met by your local tour guide. The labyrinthine old medina is protected by 18th-century seafront ramparts, and it has a unique sea breeze year-round. The harbor is busy with fishermen and colorful houses, and there are plenty of seafood stalls and restaurants where you can eat fresh grilled fish and seafood. You can relax and enjoy some free time before returning to Marrakech late in the afternoon.
